Shock has gripped residents of Nyakiharo village in Southern Division of Kabale Municipality, after a one year and eight month child was struck dead by lightning.

The deceased has been identified as Paul Ahebwa, a son to Jackline Matsiko.

According to Matsiko, she received a phone call from her relative whom she had left with her son at home informing her that Ahebwa was struck by lightning at around 9am on Monday while in his bed during a heavy downpour that started at around 7:00am and lasted for more than three hours.

Matsiko revealed that she rushed Ahebwa to Mwesigye’s Clinic in Kigongi, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident comes a few days after two women in Kisoro District were on Friday last week struck dead by lightning.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesman, Elly Maate, identified the deceased as Florence Twizerimana, an 18-year-old resident of Rikofe Village in Chibumba parish Murora Sub County and Flora Nyirandabazi, a 63-year-old resident of Chibumba ward in Chahafi town council in Kisoro district.
