Police in Kisoro District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a five-year-old girl found in Nyakabande Sub County.
The deceased, identified as Provia Niyonshuti, a resident of Bugara Village, Gasiza Parish, Nyakabande Sub County, was discovered dead in a pumpkin plantation in Kibaya Village, Gasiza Parish, near the home of her uncle, Damiano Kabahoze.
According to Kigezi Police spokesperson Elly Maate, it’s alleged that on 29/05/2024, around 3:00 pm, the deceased accompanied her mother to visit her grandmother’s home in Kibaya cell. During the visit, Provia went to a neighbor’s home, belonging to one Sebazungu, and never returned.
On 30/05/2024, the family reported her disappearance to Kisoro Police Station, and a case of disappearance was registered.
On the morning of 31/05/2024, local residents resumed the search and discovered the body in a polythene sack (Kadeyi) dumped in a garden about 15 meters away from Sebazungu’s home. The incident was then reported to the police.
Maate stated that three suspects, including Damiano Kabahoze, a teacher who had previously threatened the father of the deceased over a land dispute, were arrested to assist in the investigation, while other suspects remain at large.
